The children are so anxious on Christmas Eve! I found this really cute Christmas coloring book on Microsoft Office Online. Print the book, help your child color it, and then staple it together. Talk about each page and help you child complete it. The coloring book has a word find, dot-to-dot, coloring pages and more. This is a great way for our children to learn about Christmas, practice writing and reading, and use their creativity! You can find the Christmas Coloring Book on the Handouts page. During the last Art class, the children learned all about the color wheel. They learned which colors are primary and which are secondary. The children painted the color wheel using only primary colors. Then, they mixed the primary colors to make secondary colors. The children were really amazed that they could make another color on their own! Under Handouts, you will find a color wheel that you can print and have your child paint. Talk about colors and rainbows. Point to objects in your home ... Continue reading ...

You'll get a good laugh when you read the children's responses to questions about Santa! How old is he? Is he married? Where does he live? How tall is he? There are so many questions about this jolly old man. He's been around for hundreds of years. You'd think we'd know all about him by now! Well, I guess it depends on who you ask... Parents are welcome to attend. Remember, Friday is also the day of our Christmas Program (children singing Christmas songs) and caroling at Aegis. Parents are welcome to come for all three events. We hope to see you there! Don't forget your cameras. Continue reading ...
This week, the children read Franklin's Christmas Gift. Franklin can't decide what to donate to his school's Christmas toy drive. At first, all of his toys seem too special to give away, then nothing seems special enough. With some inspiration from his Great Aunt Harriet, Franklin finally comes up with the perfect gift. This Christmas, we'd like to do the same - donate to a toy drive. Have your child choose ONE toy he/she currently owns, but no longer wants. Gift wrap the toy and bring it to ... Continue reading ...
We had a grand time at Scientopia today! There was a lot of energy in the room. The children explored the fruit stand, puppet show area, train station, craft corner, construction zone, and so much more! There were quite a few children dressed in costumes, while others were making a large wooden house. Some of the children even made the hair on their heads stand straight up! Take a look at the photos >> Continue reading ...

Shoutouts
The temperatures have really dipped down (below freezing even!) as of late, and the children are still going outside for recess. Therefore, it is VERY important that your child has a coat to wear during school each day. We would also suggest gloves/mittens. Many children have been coming to school dressed in layers; that's great (thank you!), but they still need a coat. We want the children to be healthy, happy and warm! Today, I saw some children making snow angels in the frosty bark. I guess... Continue reading ...

Tomorrow, your child will be bringing home a poll about our classroom going paperless. We need your input since it directly affects you. The purpose behind going paperless is to cut down on paper usage. In one month, there are probably hundreds of papers that have come home. If we can cut that in half, we will save some trees, and save the school some money! However, you may want to keep things as is, and that's okay! We have busy lives and you may not want the burden of checking the website ... Continue reading ...

Tomorrow, we will be going to Scientopia for a field trip. If you haven't returned your permission slip yet, please do so by tomorrow morning. We will leave at 8:45 a.m. and return to the classroom by 11:30 a.m. Remember, tomorrow is a short day, so there's no need to pack a lunch, just a snack. Parents are encouraged to join us (even on the bus!), but you will need to pay $4.00 (that's in addition to the $7 you paid for your child) for yourself to get into Scientopia. Continue reading ...

Did You Know?
Has your child's homework folder ever come home without points (i.e. 25) written on it? If your child has completed all of the assigned homework, but did NOT get 25 points, it could be because your child did not get their homework folder out of their backpack and set it on the teacher's chair. It is the responsibility of the children to get their homework folders out each morning (Tues. - Fri.) so it may be checked. Help your child be a responsible student! Continue reading ...

I recently found an application on iTunes called Bank of Mom. It is specifically for parents to use to modify their child's behavior. Here's how it works: When your child behaves, does something extra nice, completes a chore, etc. you can add either money, time, or an activity as a reward. Don't have an iPhone? Keep reading; there's a idea for non-iPhone users.
If you choose to use money as a reward, your child will be able to earn money that can be used for buying things they want from the ... Continue reading ...
The Scholastic Book Fair started today and will end this Friday. See the calendar for times. The Book Fair is held in the Northwood Library and open to families for purchasing some really great books at low prices. Not only do they have books for children, they have books for adults, such as cookbooks, as well. Additionally, there is a table by the front door that has a bunch of things, such as computer software, write/wipe books, color/design books, and electronic Math games, for just $5! Do... This holiday season, start a family tradition! There is a great gift set (book and elf) on Amazon.com titled, "The Elf On The Shelf". The story tells of an elf, which your child names, that watches over your child to see if he or she is behaving. First, read the book, which tells all about the elf and how he's there to keep an eye on your child for Santa. Next, give your elf a creative, crazy or traditional name; it's up to your child! Then, place the elf somewhere in your house, up high is p... Continue reading ...
