Clip Up? What?

Posted by S Lloyd on Friday, April 9, 2010, In : General
You've probably heard your child talking about how they clipped up or down. My husband said, "What the heck is he talking about?" Mrs. Moffett has introduced a behavior chart for the children. The chart has levels, such as "Outstanding, Great job, Good day, Ready to learn, Think about it, Teacher's choice, Parent contact", and each child has a clothes pin with his/her name on it. Each day, every child's clothes pin starts at the "ready to learn" level. From there, they may clip up or down dep...

Picking Up Your Child - PLEASE READ!

Posted by S Lloyd on Friday, January 15, 2010, In : General

It's has been brought to my attention that picking up children has been very chaotic. It's really important to know and abide by Northwood's Traffic Policy so we can keep the flow of traffic moving.

REMEMBER:
"The drive-through lane (left lane) is for accessing parking paces and to facilitate exiting the parking lot. It is NOT to be used to pick-up or drop-off children as this necessitates children walking through the moving traffic of the curbside lane."

You should NOT be parking (leaving your...

Go Paperless? Tell Us What You Think!

Posted by S Lloyd on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : General
Tomorrow, your child will be bringing home a poll about our classroom going paperless. We need your input since it directly affects you. The purpose behind going paperless is to cut down on paper usage. In one month, there are probably hundreds of papers that have come home. If we can cut that in half, we will save some trees, and save the school some money! However, you may want to keep things as is, and that's okay! We have busy lives and you may not want the burden of checking the website ...

Our First Extended Day

Posted by S Lloyd on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, In : General
Today was our first extended day and it went very well! At noon, instead of going home, the children enjoyed lunch under the sails and alongside the other older children. Then, they played on the playground separate from the older children. When we returned to the classroom, Mrs. Blair explained what we will be doing during our Handwriting time. Next, the children took a seat at the tables and completed their Universal Access (UA) "must do" project. Once they're done, the children get to do a...

Beginning Nov. 9th, we will follow the extended day schedule, which means school will end at 1:40 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and noon on Wednesdays. On those extended days, your child will need a lunch in addition to a snack. You can either pack lunch for your child or you can purchase lunch through the school.

A lunch card has been created for each student. This is the card that your child will use to pay for lunch. Any money sent to school will be added to your child'...

Halloween Celebration Friday

Posted by S Lloyd on Friday, October 30, 2009, In : General
Tomorrow morning will likely be chaotic because the children will be really excited and wanting to show off their costumes. To reduce the chaos, please help your child with putting any accessories to their costume in their cubby. Accessories may include a mask, handheld items, and anything that dangles. Encourage your child to quickly sign in, answer the question-of-the-day, and get his/her homework folder out.

Your help will make a BIG difference! Don't forget to bring your cameras and stay f...

Are You Raising A Reader?

Posted by S Lloyd on Friday, September 18, 2009, In : General
Northwood Elementary School has been fortunate enough to get the "Raising A Reader" program. This allows each child to take home a red bookbag filled with four books and keep them all week to read at home. These red bookbags are located at the front door. You can "checkout" a bag on Monday and return it on Friday. Just use the checklist on the table beside the book rack. Find your child's name and simply place a slash on the number that cooresponds to the number on the red bag. That's it! The...

Mice Squeak We Speak

Posted by S Lloyd on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, In : General
You'd have thought our classroom was a farm today! There were many animal sounds coming from inside our room. What on Earth was going on? Mrs. Blair was reading "Mice Squeak We Speak". The book was about all the different sounds animals make, and how we speak. "Quack! Quack! Quack!", yelled Carlly. "Oink! Oink! Oink!", yelled Ryan.

Posted by S Lloyd on Thursday, August 27, 2009, In : General
We are off to a running start! The children are getting used to leaving mom and dad, learning the daily routine and warming up to Mrs. Blair and Mrs. Moffett. When you enter the classroom, you will notice the many projects the children have completed thus far. Some things you may want to take a closer look at is "The Apple of Mrs. Blair's and Mrs. Moffett's Eyes" above the tea chers' desk. A photo of your child is posted. On the front of the cabinet doors, you will see the daily schedule and ...
