Parents' Corner

School Arrival, Departure and Absences

School begins at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m., however children should arrive at 8:00 a.m. so they have enough time to do their morning routine before our walk, and promptly picked up at 12:00 p.m. Mrs. Blair or Mrs. Moffett will bring the children outside and dismiss each child directly to the repective family member. Please do NOT leave with your child until he or she is dissmissed! We don't want any children to get lost "in the mix". Please call the office if your child is absent. We do not clear absences in the classroom. You will need to give a specific reason for the absence.

Morning Routine

When children arrive at school, they must:

1. Take their jackets or sweaters off and put them in their backpacks.
2. Remove their homework folder from their backpack and place the homework folder on Mrs. Blair's chair at the front of the room.
3. Put their backpacks in their cubby BELOW their name.
4. Find their name card on the table. Read the question of the day to your child, and then direct him/her to place their name card in the next available slot under the answer.
5. Print their name on the sign-in sheet.
6. Select a book and sit quietly on the carpet and "read" until it's time for our morning walk.

Snacks

Each day, please send a small, healthy snack that your child can open independently. Be sure to pack utensils if needed.

Homework

Your child will bring homework home on Monday and will return the envelope EACH DAY. The completed homework packet will be collected every FRIDAY.

Curriculum

Our school year is divided into three trimesters. At the end of each trimester, you will receive a state standards based report card. It is very important that your child is at school every day because much of Kindergarten is "hands-on" and can not be repeated once your child returns to school.

Raising a Reader Program

Our Raising a Reader program allows children to check out a bag of books from the classroom. Each bag contains four high quality books. Some books are intended for younger siblings and some books are in Spanish. Pleast let us know if a book is damamged or lost and we will replace it. A signed contract is required for participation.

Classroom Volunteers

We love and truly count on volunteers in the classroom! After all, together, we are better! Please sign up for a day you are available to volunteer from 8:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Additionally, if you have any spare time to help, please feel free to stop in at any time! We can always use the help! The more involvement from the parents, the richer our curriculum will be. Read the details about volunteering.

Label Your Children's Items

Any items, such as backpacks, snack bags, jackets and sweaters, should be labeled with your child's name. Unclaimed items end up in the school's lost ad found. All unclaimed items are sent to a charity organization.

Dress for Activity

Send your child in Kindergarten shoes! Your child needs to be dressed in tennis shoes/sneakers. Shoes made for being active will be best to allow your child to run, jump and skip safely.

Birthdays

Birthdays are celebrated once each month. A healthy snack can be sent on the last day of the month your child was born. Please speak with Mrs. Blair or Mrs. Moffett one day prior to sending in any food.

Conferences

We will have formal conferences in October. At the conference we will discuss your child's individual learning goals.
